Campaign Goals
The campaign is meant to meet many of the University’s needs, among which three are primary:
- To provide a student experience unmatched on any American campus
- To generate ideas and discoveries vitally important to our well-being, including breakthroughs in science, engineering, and medicine
- To harness the power of knowledge to make the world a better place.
What does the campaign mean to McIntire?
McIntire’s $150 million portion of the broader University campaign will provide critical resources that will allow the School to compete for the very best faculty, and it will enhance the School’s financial stability, securing its longstanding tradition of excellence and innovation.
McIntire will use a significant portion of the campaign’s funds to ensure that the School’s faculty has the resources it needs to continue to build educational capital. This includes the establishment and endowment of new professorships, the funding of faculty research fellowships, and the endowment of new and existing research centers dedicated to the study of such vital topics as global commerce and positive leadership.
McIntire will continue to develop innovative, cutting-edge curricula and programming. In addition to its ongoing enhancements to the Integrated Core Experience (ICE), the cutting-edge curriculum in which all third-year students participate, McIntire’s faculty is also developing a number of important interdisciplinary initiatives. These include a minor in international management and collaborative programs and courses in advertising, communication, entrepreneurship, real estate, and nonprofit leadership—all of which will be open to students throughout the University. The School is also looking to enhance its existing forward-looking, innovative graduate programs.
McIntire will work to become a truly global institution. McIntire’s faculty has established as a goal that by 2015, 100 percent of its undergraduates will leave having had a significant international experience. A Global Task Force of faculty leaders is currently developing the best approaches for achieving this goal. For many students, this will mean spending a semester abroad at one of McIntire’s 10 international partner institutions. For others, it may mean spending the month of January overseas, working as an intern during summer break, or working with international students on the Grounds of the University.
McIntire has moved into a state-of-the-art new facility in Rouss & Roberston Halls on the Lawn. McIntire’s new 156,000-square-foot academic complex, which opened for the spring 2008 semester, was designed to promote interaction between faculty and students. The building successfully integrates technology and education, with nearly a dozen high-tech classrooms seating 30 to 60 students, and a variety of specialized technology centers. Several large classrooms have been specifically designated for interdisciplinary coursework and for business courses for non-Commerce students.
At McIntire, our tradition is innovation. With this campaign, we want to endow that tradition. We remain committed to excellence, deeply aware of our responsibility to produce thoughtful, ethical, and productive citizens, and mindful of the principled tradition that has brought us so far. We also recognize that today’s fiercely competitive global reality demands constant and close attention to our curriculum and to the strategic allocation of School resources. In the face of these challenges, we seek to provide McIntire students with an education that prepares them for lifetimes of leadership, integrity, and success. In short, we seek to provide the best business education in the world.
