Professor Stefano Grazioli is one of nine UVA professors to receive a 2009 All-University Teaching Award. In its 18th year, this awards program is designed to recognize outstanding teaching in all schools of the University of Virginia.

During the nomination process, Grazioli received accolades from colleagues and students alike.

“I absolutely adore him, and found myself working extra hard to impress him,” one student said. “I've never seen a professor so dedicated to his students and work,” said another student.

McIntire’s Associate Dean for Graduate Programs Michael Morris said, “Stefano is a master teacher in his own right; he makes me a more effective teacher as well.”

McIntire Professor Bill Wilhelm added, “He is a model for those with whom he comes in contact, and he embodies the very best of academic life.”

Through his teaching, Grazioli said he strives for nothing less than intellectual transformation. “Some of the best classes I ever took changed the way in which I looked at the world,” he said. “They provided me with tools that prompted me to reconsider my previous knowledge and eventually made me change my thinking and my behaviors. As a teacher, I seek to achieve the same kind of transformational effects.”

Grazioli was honored April 14, 2009, along with 25 other outstanding UVA teachers, at a dinner in the Rotunda.
