and Dominion Public Relations Manager Irene Cimino. In
December 2004, two blocks of third-year students presented
projects to ICE sponsor Dominion (the students above did a
project on crisis communication at Dominion). Cimino acted as
a resource for the project and visited McIntire to see the
students’ presentations. The student team presented Cimino with flowers at the end of the day. |
When a world-class business school partners with world-class companies, you can expect good things to happen. In fact, great things are an everyday experience for everyone involved with McIntire’s Corporate Partners Program. Companies gain visibility, strategic recruiting advantages, and networking opportunities. Students get a chance to work closely with top business leaders and to wrestle with real-world business problems. The School enhances its curriculum, and faculty members develop important research opportunities.
Four of McIntire’s Corporate Partners are playing a vital role in the Integrated Core Experience (ICE), McIntire’s cutting-edge third-year curriculum. As ICE sponsors, Rolls-Royce North America, Dominion, Procter & Gamble, and Hecht’s (a division of The May Co.) help students as they develop and present comprehensive business plans. In the process, the companies are building connections with McIntire in many exciting ways.
Rolls-Royce views its ICE involvement as a part of its strategy to constantly revitalize the company. Company executives not only spend significant time working with students, but they also attend project presentations. Recently, Rolls-Royce invited a student group to tour its Indianapolis headquarters. Students will also present their final project to Rolls-Royce executives in Indianapolis. Longer term, Rolls-Royce hopes to add graduates at the entry level and have them “percolate” up through the ranks.
Dominion, one of the nation’s largest energy producers, finds that McIntire students bring a valuable blend of youthful enthusiasm and professionalism to the table. Dominion’s CEO and other top-ranking executives participate annually in the ICE program, interacting with students and candidly answering questions about their business. Confronted with an aging work force, the company is particularly interested in recruiting innovative Commerce students.
Procter & Gamble continues to build on its longstanding relationship with McIntire by investing in ICE. This fall, Deb Henretta, President of Global Baby Care at Procter & Gamble, videoconferenced with the class in an interactive seminar about corporate communications and business strategy.
Hecht’s (a division of The May Co.) has found that student projects have real-world applications that they’ve incorporated into their own business model. Hecht’s executives will also contribute to a new ethics curriculum by discussing how they handle ethical issues that arise in the workplace.
